ANSM2K9, inspiration, motivation, flu!
At the beginning of the month the Queensland Supra Club took 72 people to Port Macquarie for our annual "Australian National Supra Meet" (www.ansm.org.au).
This years event was unfortunately tarnished with a few incidents that left me feeling the event was not as hugely successful, nor enjoyable as previous years.
As a result the QLDSC committee and I have started to plan for ANSM2K9 with a view of how we can bring back the fun that we've had in previous years. As this was the signature year after last years event naming, and a year when we brought people from as far as Victoria and Townsville, it's a little disheartening to me to realise that our greatest achievement was soured.
Nevermind - as they say, there is no such thing as failure. Only lessons and feedback.
Since I've been back the work has been busy, but no where near as busy as it should be this time of the year. From everyone I'm talking to and everything I'm reading this appears to be across the board for business. Most are attributing the decline in business in the final quarter of the year to ongoing interest rate increases, new budget and new government.
It's a bit annoying really - as this year was set to be a real achievement for me. Not that the year will be bad, it's just that this final quarter of the year is the 'cream' and with all the progress we've made I was really excited to see how this year went.
I don't know what's going on with me at the moment - I've been sick for the past week with a flu I am sure I contracted from someone in Port Mac and maybe it's just that but I am lacking any real energy or enthusiasm.
Last night I got on the decks to mix up something - and the energy just wasn't there.
Music is a real emotional thing for me. My mood really dictactes what I play and last night I was all over the place. I couldn't find a genre that really sold me and as a result the mixes I put together I'm not overly happy with.

At the ANSM Nick (Mr_BeX) and I threw a closing party - we carted our turntables and CDJ's down for this. It was a huge success after the weekends "EPIC FAIL"s.
We did have one individual DJ who got up and put on a pre-mixed CD, then continued to dance around the equipment pretending he was mixing, before we finally told him to mix or f*** off. Once he started mixing it was train wreck after train wreck and I was more than happy when his hour was finally over.
Between Nick, Dave (JZA 70 Ltd) and I we had a good night. I definitely need to get myself some more party tracks - MC Hammer "Can't Touch This" and Sir Mix-A-Lot "Baby Got Back" where the quintessential dance floor fillers!
After numerous requests and nagging we finally succomb to playing the Venga Boys "We Like To Party" - and then proceeded to use the effects panel on Nick's DJM-800 mixer to mess the song up.
The outcome of this mix can be found here: http://www.raverx.org/mp3/We%20Like%20To%20Party%20-%20ANSM2K8%20Remix.m...
It's nothing special but it was a bit of fun :)
In other news my Aristo finally got through compliance. Somewhere in transit and compliance I've lost the HID Xenon's it had in it - but this isn't a major concern.
I've got a bit of maintenance to do - I've already fixed a few body panels and interior pieces; tidied up wiring in the engine bay and given it a thorough clean.
Tomorrow I'm going to see about replacing the spark plug leads and go from there. I've also got to put the Supra up on stands and check the front wheel bearings and brakes - something is making a nasty squeeking sound at the front of the car. Thankfully I now have a daily so I can leave it up on the stands for a bit and do the job thoroughly.
Hopefully when this flu clears I'll get my motivation back - I just feel like I'm stuck in a little rutt at the moment. I know this has reflected in my attitude all round.
